Keep Incarcerated Alaska in Alaska
The Alaska Legislature is considering cost-saving measures, including sending incarcerated Alaskans to prisons in the Lower 48, to reduce the Department of Corrections' massive budget. Alaska has done this before, and we know it adds extra transportation costs and separates Alaskans from their support communities, who are essential to rehabilitation. Exporting incarceration is not the answer to reducing DOC's costs.
