Across the United States, the incarceration rate of Indigenous Peoples is twice the rate of white people – a pattern that Alaska is on trend with.

With recent efforts by the Alaska School Board and Mat-Su School Board to pass discriminatory policies towards LGBTQIA2S+ students, the ACLU of Alaska would like to remind students, parents and teachers of the rights afforded to everyone under the U.S. and Alaska Constitution.  

Alaska has one of the highest incarceration rates in the country and in the world. The number of Alaskans in prisons has increased dramatically in recent years, with nearly 5,000 people currently incarcerated.  

The ACLU of Alaska is pleased to welcome three new staff members to our team this summer to bolster our capacity in communications, advocacy and philanthropy. 

The Alaska Board of Education has issued a proposal that, if finalized, would prohibit trans girls from participating in school sports across the state.

This administration appears to be celebrating Women’s History Month in the most ironic way possible – by aggressively attacking gender equality and trying to reverse decades of hard-fought wins.
