The right to vote is fundamental to our democracy, and the ACLU of Alaska believes that access to voting should be unencumbered. On behalf of four Alaska Native elders and four tribal governments, the ACLU of Alaska and the Native American Rights Fund sued Alaska to protect Yup'ik-speaking voters' right to election materials in thier own language.

Status: After almost 3 years of litigation, in February 2010, Alaska settled the case and agreed to translate election materials into Yup'ik and to train bilingual poll workers to help voters.
