Planned Parenthood v. Streur

In 2013, the Alaska Department of Health and Human Services introduced a new regulation that restricted the ability of low-income women on Medicaid to obtain an abortion. Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest along with the Center for Reproductive Rights, the American Civil Liberties Union, and Planned Parenthood Federation of America filed a lawsuit alleging that the state’s regulation restricting Medicaid abortions puts a burden on pregnant low-income women who already have the least access to health care in our state.

 

Status: In August 2015, the Superior Court struck the law down, finding that the regulation violated the equal protection guarantees of the Alaska Constitution.
