HB 7, sponsored by Representative Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins (D-Sitka), is a bill clarifying the constitutional limitations of enforcing Alaska's ballot laws. Publishing a ballot photograph (or a "ballot selfie"), which generally occurs through social media, is an important and effective means of political expression that is protected by the First Amendment, which is why we sent a letter to the House State Affairs Committee encouraging its passage.

Status: HB 7 passed the House on March 1, 2017 and is now before the Senate.
